obey an order服人命令：
Every one must obey an order absolutely in the army. 在军队里每个人必须绝对服从命令。
obey the commands of服从••••••的命令，听众••••••的指挥：
We should obey the commands of our instructor at any time. 在任何时候我们都必须听从我们指导员的指挥。
obey under protest不情愿（勉强）服从：
He obeyed my order under protest. 他不情愿地服从了我的命令。

(1) of course是as a matter of course的省略形式，指不可避免的结果或状况。
(2) of course 和to be sure二者同义，均可作“当然，无疑、自然”解，为插入语，作状语，通常与句子其它成分用逗号分开；但二者用法有所不同，of course可放在句首、句中或句尾，可与but连用，还可独立使用，而to be sure总用在句首。
of itself自行地：
The door closed of itself. 那扇门自行关上了。
Victory will not come of itself. 胜利是不会自行到来的。
of late近来，最近：
We have been rather busy of late. 我们近来较忙。
of old昔日的；当年的；很久：
He often recollects days of old. 他常常加快起往昔的日子。
The man can’t deceive me/ I’ve known him of old 那个人可骗不了我，我早就了解他的为人了。
of oneself独自，自行；自然地，自发地；自动地，任意：
The enemy will not perish of himself. 敌人是不会自行消灭的。

of oneself意为“自由地”，in oneself意为“就其本身和性质而言”，by oneself意为“独自地”，of oneself, in oneself和by oneself都可以状语，但意思不同。
of sb.s own属于某人自己的，某人自己所有的：

of the moment和on the moment介词不同，意思就有区别：of the moment表示“在此刻的，目前的，红极一时的”的意思，而on the moment是“立即，马上，当场”的意思。
of the same mind同意，意见相同；保持原来的意见：
I am not of the same mind with you on the question. 在这个问题上我和你的意见不相同。
Is he still of the same mind? 他的意见有变吗？
of the time当代的，当今的：
They are the best scientists of the time. 他们是当代最好的科学家。
of use有用，有益：
Computers are of great use to us. 电脑对我们的用处很大。

off and on断断续续地，间断地，偶尔地：
It rains off and on these days. 这些天断断续续地下着雨。

Offhand, at once: 有一些细微差别，offhand是指不假思索的“马上”，at once则是指毫不耽误的“马上”，因此，offhand还有“粗枝大叶”的意思，常与out of hand换用。
off one’s hands与某人地关，脱手；摆脱，不再用某人负责，不需再照顾：
That task is off my hands. 那个任务与我无关了。
Jim was glad to have the sick dog taken off his hands by he doctor. 吉姆很高兴那只病狗已交由医生看护了。
off (out of) one’s head神经错乱，神志不清；疯狂的：

on a diet节食：

(2) on board 和on the board形似而实不同，on board作在船（飞机、车），到船上讲时，作状语，on the board作“在委员会中，在理事会中”解， 还可转义为“在会上讨论”。

on duty值班，当班，上斑：

(1) on earth在作“在世界上、在人间”讲时，一般不用冠词。相当于in the world
(2) on earth作“究竟、到底”解时，起强调作用，一般用在who, what, when, why, how 等疑问词、否定词或形容词最高级后加强语气。
(3) on earth, on the earth 和in the earth: on earth有两个意思：在世界上，相当于in the world; 究竟，到底；一点儿也，全然，相当于at all的意义和用法，这时常用在疑问词。否定词或最高级后加强语气。on the earth的意思是“在地球上”，用作地点状语和连系动词be的表语。in the earth尽管可译为“在世界上”，实际上它含有“在地下、在土里”的意思。因此，世界上空间的存在物不能用它。
on fire着火，燃烧着；非常激动，充满热情：
The garage was on fire. 这车库着火了。
I felt as if I were on fire and sparks wren flashing from every hair of my head. 我感到全身如火烧，每一根头发上都仿佛闪出火星来。
The passion of the mob were set on fire by inflammatory speeches. 慷慨激昂的演说使群情激动。

on fire属固定用法，表示“着火”“激动”等意，不能说on fires 或on the fire. on the fire意为“悬而未决的，处于考虑中的”，多用于口语。
on foot步行；徒步；在进行中：
She always goes home on foot. 她总是步行回家。

on occasion 和on the occasion of: 意思不同。on occasion表示“偶尔地，有时候”的意思，而on the occasion of表示“在••••••之际，在•••••时候”的意思。
on one’s feet起立，站立，站起来；恢复健康：

He’s barely back on his feet, but he insists on coming to work. 他还没全复元，却坚持要上班工作。
